Inclined Screens

The inclined screen is the most basic screen, fixed to an inclined frame at an angle of 15° to 30°. The entire screen body vibrates in a circular motion on a coil spring with the same characteristics and the material flow is provided by the acceleration of gravity.

The inclined screen has a fixed inclination, but the stroke can be adjusted to the desired level. The typical operating stroke of an inclined screen is between 8 and 12 mm. The design of an inclined screen allows this stroke to be varied by adding or removing additional eccentric blocks from the exciter.

The exciter of an inclined screen is usually driven by an external motor, which transmits the power through a belt and pulley mechanism. Due to their fixed condition operating principle, vibratory motor applications are not suitable for inclined screens.

Inclined screens are usually designed with a multilayer arrangement that allows the material to be sorted into 2 to 5-grade types. In addition, these screens are usually fitted with an impact area directly before the start of the screening section which breaks up the material and causes any long pieces to lay flat during the screening process.

Vibrating Screen Types

Inclined screens are comprised of eight basic components, being the side walls, decks, screening media, exciter, electric motor, motor console, and spring, and spring supports. The most critical factor in inclined screens is their weld-free design. All of the parts mentioned here are assembled with bolt and nut connections to prevent the cracking and failure of the screen body associated with welding.

The advantage of the circular vibrating exciting mechanism used in inclined screens relates to its simplicity, its low maintenance need, and its cost-effective design.

Horizontal Screens

The horizontal screen is an unconventional design with unique attributes that set it apart from other types of conventional screens. Its most obvious advantage is its working angle. While conventional screens work at angles between 15° and 30°, horizontal screens work parallel to the floor or at a slight tilt between 0° and 5° degrees.

The horizontal screen is equipped with a triple drive mechanism that produces an elliptical vibratory motion at the required stroke and slope. As described in the excitation mechanism section above, the triple drive mechanism combines linear and circular vibration types in elliptical vibration. In this way, the advantages of both vibration types are combined in the horizontal screen so that sinking is prevented due to the circular vibration characteristics of the elliptical motion as the material is conveyed horizontally at a defined speed by the linear vibration motion.

The strokes of the horizontal screens can be adjusted in the range of 14 to 20 mm, although they usually operate with strokes of 16 to 18 mm and speeds of 750 rpm. The material flow rate in the screening medium varies between 0.2 m/s and 0.25 m/s. The mass flow rate depends on the phase angle difference between the eccentric masses.

The triple drive mechanism is driven by an electric motor and the power is transmitted by a belt and pulley mechanism. Due to the high travel operating conditions associated with horizontal screens, the belt may fall off on its own during operation. To overcome this problem, a new belt tensioning mechanism has been designed and all power transmission mechanisms in the horizontal screen are equipped with a belt tensioning mechanism.

The horizontal screen brings many advantages to the screening operation, but also some disadvantages, the most critical of which is the complexity of the three-drive mechanism. In fact, the three-drive mechanism has a robust enough design to overcome any situation, but the maintenance program is not short, although the robustness of the design means that frequent maintenance is not required.
